Wildland fire sparked in odd way shows how unpredictable wildfire season can be in Colorado

A recent wildfire that sparked in unincorporated Douglas County, Colorado puts the unpredictable nature of… well… nature… on display.

According to South Metro Fire Rescue, a vegetation fire that started in the area of 11032 Cottontail Lane on the morning of August 12 was deemed to be the result of a bird striking a power line.

Progression of the fire was quickly stopped thanks to a rapid response and the fire was brought under control. The blaze ended up reaching just over an acre in size and threatened a lone outbuilding.

Thankfully, this fire didn’t end up doing much damage. That said, it does provide an example of how fires can have unpredictable starts. If you happen to see smoke popping up somewhere on Colorado’s natural landscape, report it.
