Man found dead in Colorado’s Black Canyon of the Gunnison
A deceased male was found at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park on the morning of March 24, according to the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arriving at the scene around 8:40 a.m., deputies talked with possible witnesses and determined that a deceased male was located in the canyon. The man’s body was below a lookout area that’s located just north of the park’s visitor center.
Through further investigation, it was determined that the male – in his early-40s – arrived at the park via vehicle, likely arriving the night prior to the discovery.
At last report, it remained unknown how and why the man’s body was located in the place where it was found.
The investigation into the situation continues and no additional information has been released at this time.
The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is one of Colorado’s four national parks, know for its namesake gorge. During this time of the year, it doesn’t see much traffic – typically less than 10,000 visitors throughout the month of March compared to visitation highs of about 50,000 monthly visitors during peak summer season.
