2 Jefferson County men accused of defrauding $12M in Medicaid funds

Two Jefferson County men have been indicted on a slew of charges alleging they fraudulently obtained $12 million from Medicaid.

James Andrew Heath, 33, and Jared Parker Heath, 37, were indicted on June 12 in Denver District Court. They are accused of defrauding Colorado’s Medicaid optical program by falsely billing Medicaid for glasses and other materials through their business QuickSpex LLC, according to a news release from Attorney General Phil Weiser.

“Defrauding Medicaid directly harms the public, particularly Coloradans who rely on the program for basic healthcare. Those who do so must be held to account and it is important that the consequences for this alleged criminal activity be meaningful. We appreciate the partnership with the federal government in taking this important action,” Weiser said in the release.

The Heaths, between 2021 and 2025, allegedly billed Medicaid for 937 frames for glasses for 10 patients, who reported either not receiving anything from the company or, at most, receiving four pairs of glasses.

The two are also accused of billing Medicaid millions of dollars for thousands of frames when the company did not have a fully open location and allegedly only provided a fraction of the billed frames to customers.

Investigators said the Heaths used the fraudulently obtained funds to purchase a home, vehicles and a diamond business. The Heaths have been charged with six counts of Medicaid fraud and waste, five counts of cybercrime and one count of money laundering, according to the indictment.
