Letter to the Editor: Blood drive was a success

Letters to the editor

I had my doubts.

Once again the strong and giving spirit of the Waterville Community proved me wrong and I am very grateful.

In spite of winter weather and multiple commitments, almost 30 donors arrived at the Community Hall last Thursday.  Thank you for your time and willingness to give the perfect gift.

A huge thank you to Dave and Marvel Mires who stepped out of retirement and prepared a feast of cookies and ‘Red Cross recipe’ sandwiches.  You kept the refreshments and the conversations going and some of our donors visited longer after their donation than the time it took to donate.

Thank you to Mike Grande and Alan Loebsack who recruited Mark Clark, Garrett Thomsen, Katie Jeffers and her friend Collista, Val Loebsack, and Elsa Chambers from Young Life to act as escorts, child care helpers, and clean-up crew.

To Karen Larsen and the Douglas County Empire Press, this event would not have been successful without your willingness to publicize it again and again.  Thank you for the article and the ‘gift’ announcements.

To each of you who came out in support of this vital community event, THANK YOU.

Next blood drive is scheduled for Feb. 24, 2011.  See you there!

Eileen Bone

Waterville Coordinator
