Of the peaks that make up the “Triple Crown of 14ers” in Park County, Mount Lincoln is by far the most interesting. At 14,286, it’s the highest point in the Mosquito Range. It also has an interesting approach ridge leading to a pointed summit that feels more like the top of a mountain than the gentle ridges of Bross or Cameron.

Pro tips

Acclimate yourself and ensure an early start by camping at Kite Lake, a small campground at the trailhead. At 12,000 feet, it won’t be the warmest night of your life, but you’ll be right at the trailhead to an early start in the morning.

If the weather is good, the scenic summit of Lincoln is a great lunch spot. If you’re hiking the loop clockwise, you only have Bross left to summit, and that is an easy, mostly flat walk before you begin descending to Kite Lake.

If you don’t have the time or energy to hit all the peaks on the loop in one day, Lincoln also makes a fine destination on its own from Kite Lake.
