This heavily-used campground is nine miles north of Crested Butte and named for the old mining town of Gothic nearby. It’s a great base camp for some of the best hiking and mountain-biking central Colorado has to offer. Hikers can set out into the stunning Maroon Bells-Snowmass or Raggeds wilderness areas. Mountain-bikers can pedal up the road a couple more miles to Trail No. 401, often regarded as the finest mountain-biking trail in Colorado. Four-wheel-drive enthusiasts can tackle the rough Schofield Pass Road beyond the campground to the Aspen area. Camping is first-come, first-served at a cost of $12 per night. There is a toilet but no drinking water.
