This popular campground rings a pretty lake near Poncha Springs in central Colorado. It has 28 sites in an open pine forest, most of which have nice views of the lake and 13,971-foot Mount Ouray. It has bathrooms and drinking water and camping fees are $20 per-night. There’s an easy walking trail around the lake, providing fishing access, as well as a handicapped-accessible fishing pier and a boat ramp for small watercraft. Those looking for a scenic drive can follow the Marshall Pass Road past the campground. This historic route was once a carriage road to Gunnison and later became the first railroad crossing of the Continental Divide in Colorado. It’s rough in places, but any vehicle can make it with a patient driver.
