7 Things to Add to Your Colorado Bucket List

7 Things to Add to Your Colorado Bucket List

Few American states have more natural beauty than Colorful Colorado. With stunning landscapes stretching in every direction, the variety of unique outdoorsy attractions can seem endless. Here are just a few of our favorite ways to get out there and enjoy these stunning surroundings.

1. Stand in four states at once.

Colorado’s southwest corner gives visitors the unique opportunity to have body parts in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico at the same time. While you’re down in this distant part of the Centennial State, visit a couple cool area hotspots like Mesa Verde National Park and Canyons of the Ancient National Monument.

2. Take a train to the top of a 14er.

As much as we love climbing the Colorado 14ers on foot, that’s not for everyone. One awesome way to still enjoy views above 14,000 feet is to hop on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, a train that will take you to the summit and back delivering amazing views along the way.

3. Free fall through a canyon.

The Terror Dactyl at the Cave of the Winds Mountain Park in Colorado Springs takes the term “thrill ride” to a whole new level. There’s a huge drop and top speeds of around 100 miles per hour. Keep an eye out for the falcons that frequent the area. For a sneak peak, here’s the 360 virtual reality video of us testing it out.

4. Check out a ghost town.

Colorado has a rich mining history and the mountains are riddled with abandoned homesteads and mining facilities that the hardy miners and their families left behind. If you want to explore these abandoned towns, many are easily accessible by short hike or off-road drive.

5. Stroll with the gods.

Garden of the Gods is one of America’s most visited natural features. Of course, there’s a reason this tourist attraction is so popular…it’s downright amazing. Regardless of whether or not you typically hit the touristy places, this is one Colorado gem you can’t miss.

6. Try your hand at sandboarding.

Who knew Colorado could get so sandy, right? The Great Sand Dunes National Park covers over 40,000 acres and is filled with the tallest dunes in North America, some of which rise to 750 feet above the valley floor. One thing you can do here is strap a board to your feet and slide down them. It’s basically like snowboarding if you could do it at your favorite beach.

7. Hunt for dinosaur tracks.

Comanche National Grasslands is home to the largest set of dinosaur tracks in North America. It’s a bit of a hike to find them, but they’re pretty amazing to see once you hunt them down.
