Bridal Veil Falls cascades off a cliff at the east end of Telluride’s box canyon. As the tallest free-falling waterfall in the Centennial State, Bridal Veil boasts a 365 foot drop from an elevation of over 10,200 feet. The water that rushes over these falls comes from alpine lakes high above tree line that can be reached via gorgeous hiking routes. A trip here is sure to be unforgettable and can be made year round.

While Bridal Veil Falls makes for a great hike in the summer, in the winter it becomes an ice climbing hot spot, known as being one of the most difficult ice climbing routes in the country.

For a unique view of the falls, check out the Via Ferrata climbing route. It’s a cliffside trail that traverses the canyon wall and skirts the edge of a cliff with several hundred foot drop offs.

The building at the top of the falls houses one of the oldest operating AC generators, once used to power the nearby Smuggler-Union mine. Today, it’s said that this generator provides Telluride with up to 25 percent of the town’s electricity needs.
