Motored vehicles aren’t just for crawling over mountain passes. Colorado’s beautiful mountains are an incredible place to check out a multitude of air shows this summer. Some of these locations offer rides for the adventurous who want to participate as well as excellent viewing areas for those who simply want to take in incredible aerial acrobatics.   • 1. Wild West Air Fest – Bob Adams Field, Steamboat Springs

    Taking place on Saturday, September 2nd, Wild West Air Fest is an annual event featuring some of the nation’s best acrobatic pilots. The GoPro Bomb Squad Wingsuit Jump Team will be on hand to show off some truly death defying tricks.

    2. Fremont County Airshow – Fremont County Airport, Cañon City

    While smaller than many other airshows in Colorado, the Fremont County Airshow, taking place on Saturday, September 16th, offers a unique view into a variety of different local aircraft. One special benefit to this airshow is that breakfast is offered prior to the event kickoff!

    3. Erie Air Fair – Erie Municipal Airport, Erie

    The Erie Air Fair on August 12th is an excellent event for the entire family. In addition to offering plane and helicopter rides, kids can enjoy the adventure zone complete with bounce houses.

    4. Spirit of Flight Day – Erie Municipal Airport, Erie

    The first airshow of the summer will take place in Erie on July 8th. Sponsored by the Spirit of Flight Center, this airshow pays tribute to some of the first female aviators and offers a tour through the history of aviation.

    5. Pikes Peak Regional Airshow – Colorado Springs Airport, Colorado Springs

    Featuring some of the US Air Force’s best pilots, the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow on September 23rd and 24th is one of Colorado’s largest airshows. The highlight of the weekend is the presentation of the F-16 Thunderbirds by premier Air Force pilots.

    6. Grand Junction Airshow – Grand Junction Regional Airport, Grand Junction

    To round out the airshow season, check out the Grand Junction Airshow on September 30th and October 1st. The theme of this airshow is “Colorado Proud” and viewers can enjoy a recreation of the infamous Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
