Whether you’re into cross-country trail riding or ripping down a downhill track, Granby Ranch has it all. Cross-country trails on the ski mountain (like the flowy Fraser Canyon Trail) deliver great views of rolling green hills and wildflowers and are accessible via chairlift, while the Granby Downhill Bike Park is sure to satisfy those into more extreme rides. In the bike park, you’ll find massive dirt jumps, wooden bridges, and bermed turns that will have you feeling more like you’re on a roller coaster than two tires. Just starting out in the park? Try Bee Line Trail. A seasoned veteran? Something like the Cougar trail might be more your speed.

2. Hike

Granby Ranch is home to more than 5,000 acres of hiking terrain. One added perk is that hikers can use the bike park lift during the summer for quick uphill access at a low per ride fee of $10. Not only does this cut out some of the leg work, it also makes the multi-use cross-country trails in the Fraser Canyon area much more accessible. If you’ve got extra time, hike to Monarch Lake. You can drive to the lake and then hike around the area. You’ll also find trailheads for access to the Indian Peaks Wilderness.

Granby Ranch has recently become a popular destination for anglers, mostly thanks to Granby Ranch’s private three-mile section of the Fraser River, a Gold Medal Water tributary that feeds into the Colorado River. Here you’ll find brown, rainbow, and cutthroat trout, along with a variety of land animals that frequent the area. Want to try your hand with casting a few lines? Granby Ranch offers guided trips to the public to access this coveted section of water.

4. White Water Rafting

You won’t find rafting in Granby, but it’s close enough for a quick day trip. In the nearby town of Kremmling, you’ll find a few rafting companies, including Adventures in Whitewater. They cater to all levels of experience, offering trips on the Upper Colorado, Clear Creek, and through the Northgate Canyon. As an added bonus, you’ll be passing through Hot Sulphur Springs on the way home. Might as well stop for a soak.

5. Golf

6. Horseback Riding

If you’re looking to horseback ride in the Granby area, you’ve got a few options. By booking through Granby Ranch and the Winding River Resort, you’re able to hop on a horse for a couple of hours on the outskirts of Rocky Mountain National Park. This option is sure to be great for the whole family. Want to spend an entire day in the saddle? A company called Samuelson Outfitters will give you what you’re looking for, with tours that explore the wildlife filled Troublesome Basin. They also offer overnight trips with advance inquiry.

7. Ski

The Granby ski hill might be smaller than most resorts in the state, but the terrain is definitely worth talking about. Sure, you won’t find massive bowls and cornices here, but what you will find is skiing that’s just downright fun. With flowy glades, pockets of trees, and accessible food and lodging, Granby is a great place to visit for a ski day with the family.
