After a dusting of snow overnight in parts of El Paso and Teller counties, dry and windy conditions pose serious fire risk in the area Friday, meteorologists say.

The National Weather Service in Pueblo issued a Red Flag Warning for all of the Interstate 25 corridor and southeastern plains due gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuel buildup. Avoid starting any fires across southeastern Colorado Springs.

Temperatures are expected to be in the low 50s with wind gusts as high as 45 mph.

“Friday will offer strong wind and high fire danger,” said Gazette news partner KKTV. “High temperatures will be a lot warmer, topping out in the 50s for most of us. However, the strong wind will make it feel quite a bit cooler than that… Make sure you have a coat when you walk out the door in the morning.”

The weather service predicted that the winds will die down and the temperatures will rise for the weekend, with an expected high of 59 degrees and 60 degrees Saturday and Sunday.

The beginning of the work will will remain sunny and dry, with temperatures staying in the mid 50s to low 60s.
