17 Unforgettable Holiday Events at Colorado Ski Resorts
So whether you’re spending the entire holiday season up in the mountains or just a day or two skiing, the Christmas spirit abounds in Colorado ski country. We’ve put together a roundup of unforgettable holiday events at Colorado ski resorts and the adjacent resort towns to help you celebrate an unforgettable holiday in Colorado this season.
1. Arapahoe Basin Ski Area

Santa and his elf will arrive at this Summit County ski area at 11 a.m. on December 24, 2017 with armloads of candy to hand out to kids in the A-Frame Lodge and Mountain Goat Plaza. Then he’ll be off to the bunny slope and from there to Black Mountain Lodge. The Summit County Choral Society will also be caroling in the base area from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
2. Aspen Snowmass

From December 21-24, 2017, the Snowmass Mall and Base village will be transformed into the North Pole, where Santa will hear last-minute gift requests and offer free photos with the kids from 2 to 4 p.m. Then on New Year’s Eve, there will be a torchlight ski parade down the mountain at 6 p.m., followed by fireworks at 10 p.m.
3. Beaver Creek Ski Resort

Winterfest kicks off December 23, 2017 at the Village Plaza, running daily (except Christmas day) at 3:30 through the holidays. Santa will be on-hand along with popular cartoon characters, with plenty of events for the kids, including children’s’ stories, parades, and ice-carving demonstrations. There will be a 6 p.m. parade down the mountain on New Year’s Eve, and Winterfest continues through January 6, 2018.

Santa (he sure gets around the ski areas….) will visit this ski area December 24, 2017, followed by a glowstick and torchlight parade and Christmas Eve fireworks. There will be another glowstick/torchlight parade on New Year’s Eve followed by a mountainside fireworks display.
5. Crested Butte Mountain Resort

On Christmas Eve, Santa will come down from the mountain in a sleigh pulled by a snowcat, with candy canes to hand out to the kids, followed by a torchlight parade by the ski school and then photos with Saint Nick at Spellbound Pizza. New Year’s Eve will offer a new on-mountain fireworks display with food and champagne at the top of Ten Peaks, at a cost of $50 per person. Or you can just watch the show for free down at the base village.
6. Eldora Mountain

On Christmas Eve, head to this ski area near Boulder for an ugly sweater contest and a holiday dance-off, with prizes in both. Of course, Santa will also be there, leading a group of revelers down the mountain for hot chocolate and candy.
7. Ski Granby Ranch

This family friendly resort has terrain for all ability levels, and the uncrowded slopes are perfect for kids gaining confidence on their skis.

From December 22-24, 2017, this family-friendly ski area will become “Winter Wonderland,” with music, treats and cookies and, who else, Santa. Head back up on New Year’s Eve for a party on the slopes.
8. Keystone Resort

Santa will be busy here in the days leading up to Christmas, appearing at Kidtopia (the on-mountain playground) and the Keystone Lodge and Spa on December 20, 2017, Chef Ned’s Chocolate Village on December 22, 2017 through the streets of Beaver Run Village on December 23, 2017 a special breakfast at Bighorn Bistro on the morning of December 24 and back to Kidtopia for some “serious playtime.” Ring in the new year at Keystone with a torchlight parade by ski school at 6 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m.
9. Loveland Ski Area

Jolly Old Saint Nick will be cruising the slopes December 23-25, 2017 and will be making regular stops at the Ski & Ride School and Children’s Center to hand out candy to the kids and pose for photos.
10. Monarch Mountain

You might spot Santa skiing on Christmas Eve at this central Colorado ski area, but the real party is on New Year’s Eve. For the 36th year, Monarch will offer a torchlight parade down the mountain, open to the first 140 skiers who show up and sign waivers. There will be live music all afternoon, games for the kids, and a fireworks show following the parade.
11. Purgatory Resort

This ski area near Durango will host Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will be on a horse-drawn sleigh handing out candy and hearing last-minute gift requests, on December 23, 2017. Christmas Eve will feature free s’mores and gingerbread house-making in the base area. Come back for New Year’s Eve with a torchlight parade and special buffet dinner.
12. Ski Cooper

Santa and carolers will be on the mountain on Christmas Eve at this small, family-friendly ski area. But the real party is New Year’s Eve, when the area will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a torchlight parade, cake, balloons, music, and more.
13. Steamboat Resort

This northern Colorado resort will celebrate the New Year with a torchlight parade by ski school at 5:15 p.m. on December 31, 2017, followed by a fireworks show. There will then be a kid-friendly Family Fun New Year’s Eve bash at the Steamboat Grand, with magic, juggling, face-painting, and other activities, with a countdown to the New Year at 9 p.m. (for the kids and their parents who can’t stay up late). Adults will find a wilder scene at the top of the gondola in Thunderhead Lodge, with music, dancing, and food going on into the wee hours of 2018.
14. Telluride Ski Resort
On Christmas Eve, ski area employees will light up the mountainside with a torchlight parade.
15. Vail Resort

On December 22, 2017, the community will celebrate the winter solstice with a paper lantern walk. Stop by the Vail Public Library during the day to make your own and at 5 p.m. join the procession through Vail Village to Gore Creek Promenade for the opening celebration of the 11th Annual Vail Winterfest Ice Theater. On New Year’s Eve, head to the Golden Peak area, where ski instructors and select locals will ski down in a torchlight parade, followed by fireworks.
16. Winter Park Resort

Santa will land at Winter Park at 1 p.m. on December 24, 2017 to read “The Night Before Christmas” in the base village, and at 5:30 p.m. the big man and his elves will take part in the annual torchlight parade down Lower Hughes trail, while snowcats adorned with lights form a giant tree on the hill and fireworks blast overhead. It will be followed by a non-denominational church service in West Portal.
17. Wolf Creek Ski Area

Southern Colorado’s Wolf Creek is one of the state’s most remote resorts, but Santa will still find his way there on December 24 and 25, 2017, greeting guests and handing out candy canes. The Wolf Lodge will serve a Christmas dinner of Cornish game hen and the traditional sides for skiers and riders celebrating the holiday.
