Colorado Springs Ties 90-Year-Old Heat Record

Colorado Springs hit 68 degrees Tuesday afternoon, tying the record high for the day set in 1928, the National Weather Service in Pueblo announced.

On average, temperatures reach 43 degrees on Jan. 9, weather service data show. Colorado Springs’ warmest January day on record was Jan. 2, 1997, with a high of 73 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to drop later this week, with highs of 56 degrees Wednesday, 39 degrees Thursday and 51 degrees Friday, the weather service said.

Wednesday brings a 40 percent chance of rain after noon, with otherwise mostly cloudy skies, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, a 30 percent chance of rain and snow is becomes a chance of snow after 10 p.m. The weather will be “blustery,” and areas of blowing snow might be seen between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.

Skies are expected to be sunny Thursday and mostly sunny Friday.
