Red Flag Fire Warnings on the Front Range this Weekend
Fire danger will be high across El Paso County Friday
The National Weather Service in Pueblo issued a red flag warning for most of southern Colorado between Monument, Alamosa and Springfield lasting between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Conditions are ripe for the rapid ignition, growth and spread of fires, so residents are asked to avoid outdoor burning or other fire activity.
Here are some tips on how to prevent wildfires.
The heightened fire risk comes a day after two wildfires burned in southern El Paso County, one of which forced residents in the Boca Chica Heights area to evacuate for nearly eight hours.
In Colorado Springs, the high temperature is expected to reach 62 degrees. Winds will range between 25 and 30 mph with gusts as high as 45 mph.
Here are some tips on how to prevent wildfires.
The winds are predicted to die down for the St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown, but temperatures will remain in the high 50s and low 60s.
Chances of rain and snow are forecast to return Sunday night, with a 30 percent chance of showers after noon and a 40 percent chance of snow after 8 p.m. Try to stay inside, as wind speeds are expected to range between 15 and 25 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph.
