Human remains found near a hiking trail on Pike’s Peak have been identified as those of a missing Colorado Springs woman who is believed to have committed suicide, the Teller County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Micah Lambert, 39, was reported missing Sept. 24, and her abandoned SUV was found Sept. 29 in the Catamount Recreational Area parking lot in Teller County, prompting a multiday, multi-agency search.

Lambert’s ID and a pistol were found with the skeletal remains discovered by a hiker earlier this month close to Catamount Reservoir and just off the Ring the Peak Trail, a 50-mile walking and biking path encircling Pike’s Peak, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Lambert was identified using dental records, the Sheriff’s Office said. The autopsy determined she had an injury consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, although Teller County Coroner Al Born has yet to issue the official manner and cause of death.

Lambert’s disappearance had remained a mystery until the discovery of a human skull March 9 about 250 yards off the trail. Sheriff’s investigators initially called it a suspicious death, and searchers combed the area for more remains. Bones, clothes and a backpack were discovered Sunday about 200 yards from where the skull was found.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Micah’s family during this difficult time,” the Sheriff’s Office said Thursday in a news release. “Our hope is that this identification provides some closure and relief.”
