Colorado Family Featured on HGTV’s ‘Log Cabin Living’
The new owners of a Woodland Park home never thought of it as log cabin-like. But the producers of HGTV’s “Log Cabin Living” did.
The home of Charlie and Kelly Gerszewski, who moved to the Teller County town about a year ago from the Houston area, has a rustic – even telegenic – charm.
“But the house we live in, I don’t really think of it as a cabin,” Kelly Gerszewski said.
The couple and their two young children, ages 1 and 3, moved to Colorado for the cooler, less humid climate and the mountains.
They had been in Woodland Park about six months when HGTV “reached out to see if they could use our house.” The Gerszewski family was game.
“I was just open to new adventures,” Kelly said. “We love HGTV just like everybody else.”
The show filmed at the rural property for three days in July. The family had to do “a little bit of acting” and pretend as if they had just found the home, for TV purposes.

“The process was a little bit stressful,” she said. “We had to take everything off of our walls. In the end, they put everything all back for us. All in all, it was really fun. It was fun to document our experience. If we ever move, we will have nice footage to show.”
The family is holding a private watch party to show off their episode, “Colorado Dream Cabin,” which airs at 9 p.m. Saturday on HGTV.
They are happy to be Colorado residents.
“In Houston it’s so hot, you just can’t be outdoors. We just chill more here,” Kelly said. “We found a small town we liked, and we like southern Colorado. It’s the exact amount of country that we needed.”
Their “quintessential Colorado” home is set back in a meadow with a stellar view of Pikes Peak. It wasn’t as big as they sought. “Everything’s bigger in Texas,” Gerszewski said. But they put in an offer, along with two other couples.
“We had to write a letter to the seller since the market is so crazy. It worked,” she said.
