Bull Draw fire has rapid growth over 24-hour period
Located approximately 12 miles northwest of Nucla, the Bull Draw fire has now grown to 26,370 acres, expanding 1,180 acres in a 24 hour period – most of which was into a place called Deep Canyon. This makes it the 17th largest fire in the recorded history of Colorado. Winds in the area have been pushing the fire over rough terrain. While many fires have been started by people this summer, this fire was started by a lightning strike on July 29.

Due to the fire, a 17-mile stretch of Forest Service road called Divide Road has been shut down. According to the most recent report, current containment of the fire is at 19% with a total of 388 personnel on the blaze. The 72-hour projection expects “moderate growth” of this fire, with more growth upslope.
