Hiking to Hahn’s Peak Lookout Tower
If you’re looking for a great beginner hike with epic views, the hike to the historic Hahn’s Peak lookout tower might be for you. On top of a bald summit (Hahn’s Peak) that reaches 10,800 feet above sea-level, the panoramic views of Routt County and Steamboat Lake are quite epic. This is one outdoor activity to add to your next trip to Steamboat Springs.

The lookout tower was originally constructed in 1912 to aid in spotting fires. It was one of the first of its type in the state and was viewed by many as evidence of the Forest Service’s commitment to protecting the land.

The hike is roughly 4 miles long, featuring gains of 1,500 feet. This out-and-back trail can feel pretty steep, but the views are worth it.
Note that during the summer, afternoon thunderstorms are quite common on Hahn’s Peak. This means you’ll want to get started with your hike earlier in the day.
