Body found on Longs Peak identified

Last week a body was found on Longs Peak. While there were assumptions about who this might be, official identification was waiting on the Boulder County Coroner’s Office. A Thursday news release has officially identified the body as Jens Yambert, 60, of Urbana, Illinois.

The cause of death is suspected to be a fall, though this is not confirmed. Witnesses report bad weather on the peak in the same timeframe that Yambert was climbing.

The body was found on August 31. Yambert left the Longs Peak trailhead on August 26.

The same man previously went missing on the same 14,000-foot peak in 2014. During that instance, a helicopter was able to spot Yambert, allowing park rangers to assist him down the mountain.
