Fall Beauty in Colorado Springs, Colorado — Pikes Peak Pikes Peak is a historic landmark mountain of the Colorado Rockies. The 14,115-foot peak lifts its massive shoulders high above Colorado Springs and dominates the Front Range. The mountain, called Tava by the Ute Indians, was named for explorer Lt. Zebulon Pike, who described it on an 1806 expedition and failed to climb it. Pikes Peak is the most visited high mountain in the United States, with over 600,000 visitors annually who visit the summit. “America the Beautiful,” the unofficial anthem of the United States, was written in 1893 by Katharine Lee Bates after a summit visit. At 1,680 acres, this state park is a fun spot to escape city life. You'll find more than 20 miles of trails in the park, open to both hikers and bikers. Fall Beauty in Colorado Springs, Colorado — Drive the Gold Belt Tour Drive the Gold Belt Tour this fall, a Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway and a National Scenic Byway, and retrace the travel routes connecting the Cripple Creek and Victor Mining District, site of the world’s largest gold rush. Today, the communities of the Gold Belt Tour, including Florence, Cañon City, and Florissant, invite you to experience the rich local heritage as you follow the “Roads to Riches.” The Gold Belt Tour is located in southern Colorado, just one hour from Colorado Springs. Each of the roads offers distinct scenery ranging from rolling mountain parklands to deep rocky canyons flecked with golden aspen trees.
