Cause of death determined in skier deaths at Keystone
sboice
During the holiday season, two skiers have died at Keystone Resort in separate (but similar) occurrences on different days. On the day of each incident, little was known about what caused the deaths, just that it didn’t appear to be a collision. Both skiers were found unconscious on unidentified ski runs.
Now identified as 53-year-old Daniel Mares of Arvada and 66-year-old Durwood Marshall of Silverthorne, it has been determined that each death was the result of a “cardiac event” according to the Summit County Coroner’s Office.
Condolences go out to each family.
These deaths were the 3rd and 4th on-resort deaths of the 2018-2019 ski season. The two previous deaths were the result of a collision, including 21-year-old Daniel Giger who had an accident at Breckenridge and 26-year-old Bill Brockmuller who had a collision at Eldora.
