A quickly-moving winter storm will dump over the central mountains, leaving some snowfall and gusty winds to impact the Front Range Wednesday afternoon, meteorologists at the National Weather Service said.

Travel in the Denver area may become difficult during the Wednesday evening commute as the storm moves southeast, bringing up to 5 inches of snow in Denver and 3 inches over the Palmer Divide. Meteorologists are warning that slick roads will be likely and blowing snow can reduce visibility along the Interstate 25 corridor.

Chances of snowfall continues into the night, with temperatures around the Front Range dropping below 0 degrees after windchill.

Issues have already been reported in several high-altitude parts of the state, including on Monarch Pass, where numerous wrecks are causing big delays.

Be aware of traction laws that are in effect prior to hitting the road in areas where winter weather is present or may become present. The one great resource for that is typically Colorado Department of Transportation’s Twitter page.

A few other noteworthy traffic happenings to be aware of include avalanche control that’s limiting open lanes on CO 65, a traction law that’s in effect on various stretches of I-70, and an upcoming closure on US 6 that will take place tomorrow between CO 119 and CO 58. Kenosha Pass also has a passenger vehicle traction law in effect.
