Baca County fire already 100% contained thanks to speedy response

Despite reaching the rather large size of 3,800 acres in a few short hours, a grass fire that sparked Thursday on the Colorado-Oklahoma border near Campo has already been 100% contained. In a release related to the containment, the Baca County Sheriff’s Office thanks “all responding agencies and individuals for their help and quick responses to our call for mutual aid.”

Containing this fire quickly was essential to halting its speedy growth. Strong winds and dry conditions have been ideal for the spread of a fire like this. The winds in the area had gusts yesterday that were reaching speeds of 60 miles per hour.

Elsewhere around the state, the winds wreaked havoc, downing power lines and shattering windows.
