Found in the historic mining district high above Creede, Colorado, the Bachelor Loop is one drive that shows off Colorado’s vibrant past in an unforgettable way.

The Bachelor Loop is 17 miles long, traveling along a route that passes abandoned mining sites and ghost towns from the 1800s. The natural features of this route are also stunning, as the loop winds through a canyon flanked by jagged cliffs.

There are two main routes – the main route that follows West Willow Creek and a more rugged route that follows East Willow Creek. Note that the rugged route is for four-wheel-drive vehicles.

Though just 17 miles long, it’s recommended that one budgets at least an hour for the full tour. Be warned that dangerous weather can become a factor on several steep and narrow sections. It’s also worth mentioning that the route reaches an altitude of 10,000+ feet. This route can also be mountain biked.

Find a guide book at the Creede Visitor Center for information about specific spots that you’re passing during the drive. If you’re visiting this attraction, do not enter abandoned mines or private property. Deadly hazards exist. Do not take anything from the route aside from memories and photographs.
