Sink hole fully closes part of Colorado highway

Sink hole fully closes part of Colorado highway

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, a sink hole has now fully closed northbound CO 325 at Grass Valley Rd.

This closure comes after the sink hole destroyed part of the highway. Early estimates indicate that a 200 foot stretch of road, 8 feet wide at parts, was destroyed by the sink hole, according to the Post Independent. This sink hole has also been referred to as a “bank failure” throughout the day.

It’s recommended that you avoid this road unless you’ve got a residence on the highway in the impacted area. This highway closure is expected to cause delays to travel. It’s unclear when this stretch of road will reopen.

According to a press release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Rifle Falls State Park and hatchery will also remain inaccessible due to the road collapse. Campers and visitors have been advised to avoid the area until further notice.
