Kayaker dies in Colorado lake
Authorities have identified a man whose body was pulled from Dowdy Lake in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, as 76-year-old David Doft from Livermore.
LCSO Emergency Services, deputies, and medical personnel responded to the incident at around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, after receiving a report of an overturned kayak and a man in the water at Dowdy Lake, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.
Responders began administering CPR and the 76-year-old man was transported to a nearby hospital by helicopter where he was later pronounced deceased. Doft was not wearing a personal flotation device when he was found.
After an autopsy, the Larimer County Coroner’s Office made the determination that the cause of Doft’s death was drowning. It was also determined that the man’s death was an accident.
Dowdy Lake in Red Feather Lakes is located northwest of Fort Collins. The recreational area is a popular spot for canoeing, fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. The map below shows the location of Dowdy Lake.
