A woman was seriously injured in Boulder County, Colorado after driving off of Flagstaff Road near Green Mountain Trail. Two hikers were on the trail when they heard a vehicle crashing down a steep embankment. This prompted them to search for the vehicle.

Upon finding the vehicle, they discovered a 49-year-old female that had been partially ejected. Fortunately, both hikers had medical experience – one a nurse and one an EMT. The two hikers were able to effectively assess the injured woman’s injuries and lead first responders to her location. According to the official press release about the incident, the assistance from the hikers was “instrumental” in helping with the search and rescue process.

First responders were originally prompted to start a search in the Flagstaff Mountain area after a concerned family member of the woman called in around 10 AM. A cell phone app was originally used to determine the approximate location of the injured woman.

Upon arriving at the scene, search and rescue crews needed to use technical methods to get the woman to safety over the course of two hours with 20 personnel. Because the woman was on a steep embankment, a litter was used to transport her to a spot where an ambulance could reach her.

The woman was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Her vehicle has not been retrieved due to complications caused by the precarious location of the vehicle.

Green Mountain trail is a 5.7 mile loop that has an elevation gain of 2,798 feet. It’s located just southwest of Boulder near town.
