According to a report from CBS Denver, wildlife officials believe the mountain lion was hit by a car due to its lethargic behavior.
Please remember wild animals can be unpredictable and dangerous. Recently, a driver attempted to help an injured bobcat by putting it inside her vehicle where her child was seated. An elk with massive antlers also attacked a woman near Rocky Mountain National Park just last week.
If you encounter wildlife that appears sick or injured, leave it alone and contact your local Colorado Parks and Wildlife office. Drivers are also encouraged to use caution, slow down, and watch for wildlife on the roads. Keep a close eye out for movement and shining eyes along the road, especially during darker hours. Elk and deer typically travel in herds, so if you see one cross the road, there’s a good chance you’ll see more. Drive safely and avoid wildlife collisions.
