Mount Evans highway to close in days
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, Mount Evans Highway will be closing down for the season on Monday, October 7.
While part of the road has already closed, the first 10 miles (to summit lake) will remain open until this closure date pending weather. Generally, the road reopens on Memorial Day Weekend.
Mount Evans Highway, also known as Mount Evans Scenic Byway, is the highest paved road in North America. It reaches a top altitude of 14,130 feet above sea-level, stretching for 28 miles. It’s known for its big drop-offs and beautiful views. This road is not for the faint of heart.
If you plan on visiting the road this year, you’ll want to do it this weekend before you miss your chance.
