A man was shot near Prospect Lake in Colorado Springs’ Memorial Park on October 8, sustaining a bullet wound on the left side of his chest. When police responded to the scene, the man in his 50s was lying in the parking lot. Witnesses initially reported that the shooter left the scene in a white vehicle. The victim of the shooting is expected to recover. Details as to why the shooting might have occurred have not been released.

On October 15th, an arrest was made related to the shooting. KKTV reports that 49-year-old Demetrius Howard was arrested on first-degree assault charges.

Memorial Park is located near downtown Colorado Springs. The main feature at the park is a large lake, though this lake has been closed to use until further notice following the discovery of toxic blue-green algae.
