Wildfire destroys building, forces evacuations in Colorado
According to a press release from the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office, a grass fire was reported at 4:00 PM on October 27 near Antonito, prompting emergency response. The fire was initially estimated at 2,000 acres, though no official size has been released. The most recent update detailed damages, including one structure, a number of fences, pastures, and haystacks. The fire has displaced a large number of cattle.

Dubbed the G-18 fire, the fire continued to burn into Monday with emergency responders concerned that high winds could drive the growth of the blaze. Evacuation orders were issued Sunday afternoon for those within a 3.5 mile radius of County Road G and County Road 17.
Minor injuries have been sustained by one firefighter. No one else has been injured.
At one point, several nearby roads were closed. These roads have since been reopened.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
