Strong incoming winds prompt ‘hazardous weather outlook’ in Colorado

On the heels of a winter weather advisory that was active across much of Colorado’s Front Range from Sunday night into Monday morning, a ‘hazardous weather outlook’ as been posted by the National Weather Service. The outlook warns of strong winds, up to 60 miles per hour, that will hit parts of the state from Tuesday to Wednesday. These winds are expected to be especially strong at higher altitudes, meaning that caution will need to be taken by drivers traveling along the state’s many mountain passes. Winds of this speed can cause structural damage and uproot trees.

Winter weather will likely hit the state next weekend, with the possibility of a few flakes on Wednesday. According to OpenSnow, 1-4 inches will drop over the weekend at most high-altitude spots, lasting from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning.

Early season snow has already boosted snowpack levels to two to three times the norm in parts of the Rocky Mountains, including Colorado. Parts of Northern Colorado currently have the highest snowpack levels in the state.
