Despite the changing seasons, you can still catch epic views at 14,115 feet.
Motorists can once again drive the 19-mile paved road to the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak, offering incredible views of granite peaks, alpine lakes, and wildlife. The Pikes Peak Highway has officially reopened following early season snow. The road to the summit reopened on Wednesday, November 6, shortly after a series of October snowstorms swept through most of the state. The road remains subject to additional closures pending weather and other factors.
Despite all the early snowfall, Colorado is now experiencing a shortage of precipitation. Amid the state’s lingering dry spell, the road has since remained open ever since.
The Pikes Peak Highway is open to the summit today! Hurry up here while the nice weather lasts! #pikespeak #roadupdate — Pikes Peak (@drivepikespeak) November 14, 2019
The Pikes Peak Highway is one of the few high altitude mountain passes in the state that is maintained all year-round. Throughout the winter season, backcountry skiers and riders flock to the fourteener for the natural powdery terrain.
Another popular scenic drive in the state, Trail Ridge Road has officially closed for the winter season. The scenic road nestled in Rocky Mountain National Park typically closes for the season on October 23 and reopens around the last week of May, pending weather.
Several high country roads are also closed for the season, including Mount Evans Scenic Byway and Independence Pass.
