Last night, Governor Polis ordered a shutdown of Colorado’s restaurants for the next 30-days and his announcement was met with mixed reactions. Many people expressed concern that the shutdown would eliminate a main source of income for those in the restaurant industry, while others commended Polis’ efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Here’s a look at what some of the people around Colorado are saying about the closure of all restaurants and bars with the exception of delivery and take-out:
This is absolutely ridiculous. This is being pushed on us for a reason people, something is up with all of this — Walt Street (@WaltStreet2) March 16, 2020
I agree we need to include suspending all rent, mortgages and Utilities bills for two months! — Steve Douglas (@MayorDouglas_CC) March 16, 2020
This is shameful. Now for a whole month, all these workers (including me) will have no income. Then the government will step in to pay for us. Then they will charge everyone more in taxes and have more control over the people. #Shameful — 🇺🇸Drill Baby Drill😷 (@realHankRearden) March 16, 2020
Polis has gone too far. Preying on people who feel this virus will have any true impact on their lives, oppressing the masses is the total wrong answer — Rational PO (@po_rational) March 17, 2020
Smart move. But Coloradoans, buy gift cards! — Jessica King McLaughlin, MSW, LCSW (@jkingmclaughlin) March 16, 2020
I want to know how this person has the power legally to order a law abiding business to close its doors for any period of time let alone 30 days. What law gives hime that power — k mac (@kmsteel) March 17, 2020
I get why they’re doing this, but LAME. — ᴄ u ᴊ ø 🦸♂️ (@cujoknows) March 17, 2020

8 weeks. I’ll be out of work for 8 weeks if Colorado/Colorado Springs follows Denvers actions to close bars and restaurants. I wasn’t out of work that long after I gave birth to my daughter. If they dont halt bills I’ll be out of money by May. I dont even know how to act rn — Lauren (@laurenmachado12) March 16, 2020
My family’s restaurant in Littleton, Colorado, hasn’t closed since my grandpa opened its doors in 1967. Romano’s is open for takeout & delivery. My mom & uncle are personally making food & delivering it to the community for as long as they can. Please support small businesses. pic.twitter.com/wuOrJjGygP — Lindsey Bartlett (@lindseybartlett) March 17, 2020
So, 14 days and reevaluate is out of the question why? #Morons — OldSaltCityAce (@OldSaltCityAce) March 17, 2020
Dear Mr. Polis @GovofCO While I appreciate your actions to protect us citizens of Colorado. I watch this announcement in tears, fearing for not only the future of my family but the countless others that are now out of a job for at least 30 days. What do we do now!? PLEASE HELP! — Rachel McAdams (@RachelM12818967) March 17, 2020
