Multiple “Blizzard warnings” active in Colorado; “Winter storm warning” in Denver

As winter weather bears down on Colorado, a blizzard warning is active for parts of the state. Four different blizzard warnings are active, impacting different regions. Winter storm warnings are also active, including much of the Denver area.

Here’s the breakdown from the National Weather Service:

Blizzard Warning #1

Impacted area: Northern El Paso County

What: 1 to 8 inches of snow, 50 mile per hour winds

When: 9 AM Thursday through midnight

Additional details: Travel will be difficult with strong winds limiting visibility and causing drifting snow.

Blizzard Warning #2

Impacted area: Castle Rock, Elbert, Fondis, Kiowa, Larkspur

What: 8 to 12 inches of snow, 55 mile per hour winds

When: 9 AM Thursday through 6 AM Friday

Additional details: Snow and slush will cover roads, likely impacting commutes. “Difficult to impossible” travel expected. Strong winds could down power lines and cause tree damage.

Blizzard Warning #3

Impacted area: East central to northeast Colorado

What: 3 to 7 inches of snow

When: From noon Thursday to 6 AM Friday

Additional details: Travel will be difficult with snowy roads and reduced visibility.

Blizzard Warning #4

Impacted area: Yuma and Kit Carson Counties in Colorado; Also parts of Nebraska

What: 2 to 4 inches of snow; 35 to 45 miles per hour with stronger gusts reaching 55 miles per hour

When: Noon on Thursday to 6 AM on Friday

Additional details: Travel will be difficult with snowy roads and reduced visibility.

There are also a number of other weather related warnings around the state of Colorado, including winter storm warnings, which are active in the Denver area.

Winter Storm Warning #1

Impacted area: Denver, Boulder, western suburbs of Denver

What: 6 to 12 inches of snow, 40 mile per hour wind

When: Active now through 6 AM on Friday

Additional details: Snow and slush one roads, difficult travel; Likely to impact commutes.

Winter Storm Warning #2

Impacted area: Eastern San Juan Mountains above 10,000 feet

What: An additional 3 to 10 inches of snow adding to previous snowfall; 60 mile per hour winds

When: Through 6 PM on Thursday

Additional details: Significantly reduced visibility and strong winds
