Happy ending for ATV riders following crash in Colorado

Douglas County Search and Rescue (DCSAR) is reminding everyone to stay home amid the coronavirus after a nearly 6-hour rescue mission near Salida.

According to a Facebook post from DCSAR, crews were alerted at about 6:10 PM on Sunday for a single ATV accident involving two riders on Rampart Range Road near Dakan Road. The two riders, who were both uninjured, started walking back to Rampart Range Road and Highway 67.

Advised by dispatch to stay put, a search and rescue ATV team traveled through mud, ice, snow, and fallen trees to find the riders. The mission ended shortly after 11:00 PM. To protect against COVID-19, gloves and masks were used for all parties involved in the rescue.

Rampart Range Road is a long scenic stretch of primarily unpaved road used among tourists, photographers, campers, motorcycles, and ATV riders. The road starts off at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs and ends at Colorado Highway 67 between Sedalia and Decker. Here’s a look at where it’s located on the map.

Editor’s Note: Thanks to DCSAR, this rescue story has a happy ending. This may not always be the case. Please continue to limit outdoor activity amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Stay safe, explore trails close to home, and maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet from others.
