[WATCH] Take a virtual trek over four stunning mountain passes in Colorado

With the coronavirus keeping Coloradans at home and away from the mountains, many outdoor enthusiasts are itching to escape. Let this video take you on with a virtual adventure through the mountains.

Check out the clip below for a look at Colorado’s high country in the Aspen area. These two trail runners journey through the Four Pass Loop in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness as filmed by YouTuber “ Vo2maxProductions.” The hike traverses over four stunning mountain passes – all over 12,000 feet – including West Maroon Pass (12,500 feet), Frigid Air Pass, (12,415 feet), Trail Rider Pass (12,420 feet), and Buckskin Pass (12,500 feet).

My favorite trail loop in Colorado! 27 miles, and about 8000′ of climbing (including 4 mountain passes over 12,000′). Amazing!

The Four Pass Loop located near Aspen is rated as difficult. The 29.1-mile loop gains 7,933 feet of elevation total and wanders through beautiful high alpine scenery. The loop can be hiked counterclockwise or clockwise, although starting with West Maroon Pass seems to be the more popular option as it’s not as steep. It takes most people three to four days to backpack the entire loop, but as seen in the video, you can also trail run it.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Bear Canisters are required while backpacking in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. Permits are also required for overnight stays. Please  Leave No Trace if you decide to visit this fragile alpine destination. If you pack it in, you pack it out.
