DILLON — A Colorado police department requested the public’s help in locating a man accused of trespassing after he wore what was perceived to be a Ku Klux Klan hood in a store and refused to leave.

The Dillon Police Department said employees told officers Thursday that a worker called police after the man wearing a pointed hood refused requests to leave, the Summit Daily News reported.

The man left Dillon City Market in the town 69 miles (111 kilometers) west of Denver shortly before officers arrived, police said.

Dillon Police Chief Mark Heminghous said the department is attempting to use surveillance footage to identify the man’s vehicle.

“Right now, they’re trying to identify him, contact him and take it from there,” said Kerstin Anderson, Dillon police director of communications. “Obviously, we take this kind of action very seriously.”

In California, authorities cited free speech in deciding not to charge a man who wore a KKK hood inside a store. He removed the hood after he was asked to, paid and left.
