Colorado’s annual “Fall Fest” DUI enforcement period begins Friday with increased enforcement measures running until Oct. 28,
Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is partnering with the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and 84 local law enforcement agencies statewide during the enforcement period to try and prevent impaired driving.
“Last year, as the seasons changed, we saw a spike in DUI arrests,” said Col. Matthew Packard, chief of CSP. “Our message is simple, if you choose to drink, don’t endanger others. You have options to avoid a needless tragedy and we know what to look for to help keep our Colorado roadways safe.”
The Fall Fest will include increased enforcement and increased DUI checkpoints from the 84 law enforcement agencies around the state.
Last year, the Fall Fest enforcement period resulted in 1,534 DUI arrests with participation from 99 law enforcement agencies.
CDOT said law enforcement will be on “high alert” in the coming weeks and encourages Coloradans to travel safely as traffic volumes continue to shift back to normal.
In Colorado, there have been 102 deaths this year attributed to impaired driving and 1,444 DUI arrests this summer, according to CDOT.
