An unidentified adult male was killed by police after a multi-county car chase ended in a shootout in Denver early Saturday morning.
Adams County police attempted to stop a White Ford SUV for a traffic infraction at East 58th Avenue and Broadway. The vehicle continued driving south and began to fire shots at police near West 48th Avenue and Bannock Street.
A pursuit of the vehicle was then authorized, continuing south and west into Denver. Denver police soon joined the pursuit.
The vehicle came to a forced stop at North Meade Street and West Conejos Place, The driver and a female passenger fled.
The police caught the two in a backyard. The driver was armed and after he did not drop the weapon at the police’s command, the officers fired at around 4:30 a.m.
The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene.
The female companion is uninjured and being treated as a witness in the investigation. No officers were injured.
Denver and Aurora investigators are investigating the incident, according to DPD Division Chief Ron Thomas.
