Most unemployed Coloradans will begin to receive benefits under the Lost Wages Assistant Program, a federally-funded program, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment announced Friday.

The program will give $300 per week for up to six weeks to eligible residents, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment said in a news release. Payments for the first three weeks of benefits will begin today, the agency said.

Coloradans who received at least $100 per week in regular unemployment benefits or other federal benefits, including Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, between July 26 and Sept. 5 are eligible for the Lost Wages Assistant program, CDLE said.

The Department estimates that between 300,000 to 350,000 Coloradans — or about 94% of claimants — will be eligible.

Last month, President Donald Trump announced the LWA program, which authorized FEMA to use $44 billion from its Disaster Relief Fund.

To claim benefits, residents must complete a certification to confirm that their unemployment or partial unemployment is due to disruptions caused by the pandemic. The certification can be completed at ColoradoUI.gov or by calling (303) 318-9000.
