Denver breaks record for most 90-degree days in a year

Denver reached 90 degrees Saturday afternoon, bringing the 2020 total of 90-degree days up to 74. This breaks the state record, according to the National Weather Service.

The previous record for most 90-degree days in one year in Colorado was 73, set in 2012, followed by 61 in 2000 and 60 in 1994, according to the weather service.

The record could be broken again this week, with NWS predicting temperatures in the high 80s on Sunday and Monday.

September has been a month of weather records for Denver, setting 12 weather records between Sept. 5 and Sept. 9, as reported by Weather5280.

Among those records are:

  • Latest 100-degree reading on record: Sept. 5 (previous record: Sept. 2)
  • Record high temperature for the month of September: 101 degrees on Sept. 5 (previous record: 100 degrees)
  • Shortest time between last 100 degree day and first snowfall: three days (previous record: 20 days)
