Douglas County house destroyed in Friday fire
A house outside of Parker was destroyed in a fire Friday night, according to the South Metro Fire Rescue who fought the fire.
Three occupants lived in the house but none were home at the time of the fire. Two dogs died in the fire.
Firefighters responded to the house fire at 6:20 p.m. at 9296 Windhaven Dr. in the Timbers neighborhood of unincorporated Douglas County. Once arrived, they found the entire backside of the house engulfed by fire, South Metro said.
The crews immediately began putting water on the fire and soon after, the house started to collapse.
Units moved to a defensive strategy, fighting the fire from the outside of the house and from above using an aerial master stream. A grass fire started to the north of the house that was quickly put out, South Metro said.
Crews began experiencing low water pressure from the hydrants as a result of the large amount of water needed to fight the fire. They then moved to using other hydrants on streets nearby with larger water supplies.
Firefighters eventually gained control of the main body of the fire, spending the evening hours putting out hot spot fires and monitoring the structure.
Units stayed on the scene all night into Saturday morning to assure the fire didn’t reignite.
Arapahoe Rescue Patrol, Inc., Elizabeth Fire Rescue, Franktown Fire Protection District and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office supported South Metro in handling the incident.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
