Almost 96% of Colorado households counted in Census one week from deadline
So far, 95.8% of Colorado housing units have been accounted for in the 2020 U.S. Census, the Census Bureau reported Wednesday.
The total U.S. response rate currently sits at 96.2%.
This makes Colorado 35th in the country for response rates, with West Virginia, Idaho, Hawaii, Maine and Vermont all having over 99% of households counted.
Of Colorado’s responses, 69.4% were from self-response and 26.4% were from door-to-door followups to non-responders.
In Colorado, Douglas County has the highest self-response rates with 81.1%. Douglas County is followed by Jefferson, Broomfield and Boulder counties with 79.7%, 76.9% and 76.5% respectively.
Denver County’s self-response rate is currently 68.6%. The city’s self-response rate is also 68.6%, placing it as 69th in the state for highest response rates.
Census data determines federal funding, demographic data and congressional representation for the next 10 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. Census data also informs the redrawing of districts in legislative bodies at the state and local levels.
The current deadline to respond to the Census is Sept. 30.
