[VIDEO] Mountain lion stalks children in California neighborhood

Last weekend, a large mountain lion was caught on video stalking children in Pacifica, California.

Video footage shows a large cat eye-balling a neighborhood street before jumping a fence to hide beneath a truck. A different angle of the car shows what the lion is watching – two children riding their bikes a short distance away.

While mountain lion attacks on people are rare, they do occur. Children can be particularly at risk as they are smaller and less of a threat to the lions.

In Colorado, a 10-year-old boy was killed in 1997 in Rocky Mountain National Park when he was hiking and got too far ahead of his family. Just last year, an 8-year-old boy was attacked in Bailey, Colorado while playing outside. He sustained wounds to his head, but survived.

If you live in an area where mountain lions are present, keep an eye on your children and pets. Find information about what to do when you encounter a mountain lion here.
