A motor home driver caused a collision involving 16 vehicles and numerous injuries Wednesday afternoon, Fort Collins Police Services said.

The class A motor home was pulling an SUV east on Harmony Road when it approached several vehicles stopped at a red light at Timberline Road. The motor home failed to stop and collided with the vehicles, police said.

Police were notified of the collision about 4:15 p.m.

Several people had to be extracted from their vehicles by firefighters, police said. In total, 22 people were treated for injuries, five were taken to a hospital and two suffered serious injuries.

Harmony Road was closed between McMurray Avenue and Ziegler Road for 12 hours for the investigation. Timberline Road was also closed between Caribou Drive and Harmony Road.

“This was a resource-heavy incident that required strong collaboration with our partners in public safety,” police Chief Jeff Swoboda. “I’m grateful for the rapid response of first responders.”

Police said they are investigating the cause of the accident and the possibility the driver of the motor home suffered a medical episode.
