Boulder nurse wins $1,000 in national giveaway for health-care workers
A nurse from Boulder is the first winner of a national prize giveaway to health-care workers affected by COVID-19.
Amy Silverman, a registered nurse of 6 years, specializes in medical cannabis and CBD use for patients suffering from autoimmune disease, cancer, autism, PTSD and chronic pain.
Silverman was nominated for the $1,000 prize by her mom, Jo.
Jo said that when COVID-19 hit, Silverman switched to remote work to care for and school her 5-year-old son. Silverman’s husband, Nandu, continued work on the medical frontlines, in the pulmonary unit of a local hospital.
The family said they have struggled emotionally and financially, worrying about the health risks that come with their careers. They live in a one-bedroom apartment in north Boulder, making quarantining and social distancing impossible.
“My heart aches for them as they attempt to move through the challenges of being frontline workers,” Jo said in the nomination, “homeschooling their son, and simply waking up each day and knowing it is not nearly over nor is there much support from the government.”
Silverman was chosen out of hundreds of nominees as the first of four winners.
Silverman will receive a $1,000 gift card to Glamping Hub, allowing her to take a free outdoor vacation.
Silverman told Glamping Hub the vacation was a welcome change from the recent stresses of her life.
“I feel like I’ve been riding a rollercoaster and every day brings different challenges,” Silverman said. “(I’m) shocked and grateful. I’ve never won anything before in my life.”
The second winner, a breast imaging radiologist in Texas, was announced Monday. The rest of the winners will be announced in the coming weeks at glampinghub.com.
