Authorities say one person died after being injured in a 16-car pile up last week
One of the victims involved in a 16-car pileup in Fort Collins last week has died as a result of his injuries, officials from the Fort Collins Police Department said.
Shane Siegfried, 48, of Fort Collins, was driving a 2008 Lexus sedan that was struck during the crash at the intersection of Harmony and Timberline Roads, just southeast of Fort Collins on Oct. 14.
He died at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Officer Drew Jurkofsky told The Denver Gazette.
Siegfried was one of 22 victims injured in the crash, and one of five people who were transferred to a nearby medical facility. As of Monday, only one person remained in the hospital, Jurkofsky said.
Authorities say a motorhome was pulling an SUV, while traveling east on Harmony Road and failed to stop at a red light on Timberline Road, and struck several vehicles that had already stopped.
Multiple victims had to be extricated from their vehicles by the Poudre Fire Authority, officials said.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
