Colorado Department of Agriculture makes $1 million in funding available to farmers, ranchers

The Colorado Department of Agriculture announced that up to $1 million in grant funding would be available to local farmers, ranchers, food hubs and processors.

The money, which was made available through the CARES Act, will allow local agricultural producers to be eligible for up to $12,500.

Farmers markets, food hubs, processors and other intermediaries that support local producers are eligible for up to $50,000, according to a news release.

Officials from the Department of Agriculture hope the money will assist local producers and suppliers to continue adjusting to the impact of COVID-19.

“COVID-19 has had serious impacts on agriculture and underscored how vital our food systems are,” Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture Kate Greenberg said.

“It is critical that farmers, ranchers and processors receive financial support to ensure their operations continue in the wake of this unprecedented pandemic.”

The grants will be administered through the Colorado Farm and Food Systems Respond and Rebuild Fund, which was organized in the spring as a direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since then, more than $370,000 have been allocated across the state to those in need.

Applications for the grants as well as information on whose eligible can be found online.
